How To Get Into Redmane Castle And Enter The Main Area
Redmane Castle is one of the most formidable strongholds in Elden Ring, situated in the southeastern corner of the crimson-tinged region of Caelid. Navigating toward this fortress can be confusing for many players due to locked gates, heavily guarded bridges, and changing world events. Understanding how to gain entry and explore its central plaza is essential for progressing through key storylines and encountering legendary combat challenges.
Reaching the Impassable Greatbridge
To begin your journey toward Redmane Castle, travel to the southern edge of Caelid until you arrive at the Impassable Greatbridge. This massive stone bridge is defended by siege engines, catapults, and hostile soldiers. You can choose to sprint past these defenses on horseback or utilize stealth to safely reach the nearby Site of Grace.
Once you reach the Site of Grace located right before the bridge, you will evaluate the current state of the castle. Depending on your overall game progression, the path ahead may present either active combatants or an operational portal. Taking time to rest at this grace point ensures a safe respawn location before attempting entry.
Infiltrating Through the Side Route
If the main front gate remains firmly closed, you must utilize the cliffside pathway along the right side of the fortress. Ride your mount along the rocky outcroppings and navigate carefully around the castle perimeter. This path requires a well-timed jump across a small gap to reach a secluded rear entrance.
After reaching the rear wall, look for a series of ladders attached to the wooden scaffolding. Climbing these ladders allows you to enter the upper battlements without alerting the main force below. From this elevated position, you can drop down into interior rooms and gradually unlock doors leading toward the courtyard.
Accessing the Main Plaza During the Festival
Triggering the Radahn Festival fundamentally alters the layout and enemy density of Redmane Castle. When the festival is active, a waygate near the bridge turns on and teleports you directly inside the inner grounds. Most standard enemies will disappear, allowing unhindered access to the main plaza where various quest NPCs gather.
Inside the plaza, you can interact with key figures like Alexander and Blaidd before initiating the festival cutscene. Speaking to the castle crier atop the stairs officially opens the path to the elevator and the boss portal. This streamlined access provides the fastest route to facing Starscourge Radahn.
Resetting the Castle for Full Exploration
Defeating Starscourge Radahn does not mark the end of Redmane Castle's role in your adventure. To explore locked rooms and fight optional mini-bosses, you must talk to Jerren inside the chapel after the battle. Exhausting his dialogue and resetting the area restores the castle to its original, enemy-filled state.
Returning to the restored fortress allows you to open previously barred doors and collect valuable weapons, cookbooks, and upgrade materials. You will also face a challenging duo fight in the main plaza against a Misbegotten Warrior and a Crucible Knight. Defeated barriers finally reveal the full depth and secrets of this historic Caelid stronghold.
